Why Our Algorithmic Stock Scores Matter

Instant Fundamental Analysis

Reading a company's financials properly takes time most investors don't have. Our scores give you a clear picture of financial health in seconds — balance sheet strength, earnings quality, valuation — without opening a single annual report.

Proactive Risk Identification

By the time a problem shows up in the news, it's usually too late. SharesGuru flags deteriorating fundamentals, rising debt, and promoter sell-offs early — before they show up in your portfolio's returns.

Undervalued Opportunity Discovery

Some of the best opportunities on NSE and BSE don't show up on trending lists. We track where institutions are quietly buying, where financials are improving, and where momentum is starting to build — so you see them before the crowd does.

Zero Bias, 100% Objective Insights

We don't give tips. We don't have opinions. Every score is a direct output of the data — no manual overrides, no editorial calls. Just numbers, run the same way, every single day after market close. You stay in control of every decision.

Sharesguru.in Stock Score

This is the most important score for every stock. You will find it in the top of our stock pages. This is the culmination of all information on the stock. One of the most important components of this score is the valuation of the stock. Our proprietary valuation and fair value models evaluate stocks everyday based on companies fundamentals, macro-economic scenarios and qualitative assessments. Other components of the score include several sub-scores which are based on parameters such as growth, profitability, size, risk etc. Sharesguru.in high scoring stocks have outperformed low scoring ones by a huge margin in the past. This high efficiency of our stock scores help investors "Fish where the fish are".

While Sharesguru.in Stock Score is the overall aggregate score, we also provide category level scores that cover various important parameters as provided below.

Performance & Growth Metrics

1. Growth Score

Definition: A company's ability to expand its revenue and profitability over time.

Key Indicators: Short-term and long-term Revenue CAGR, Net Income growth, and EPS (Earnings Per Share) growth.

The Logic: High scores are awarded to companies with high growth rates that are steady over time in comparison to the broader market.

2. Returns Score

Definition: Measures the historical wealth-generation capability of the stock.

Key Indicators: 1-Year, 3-Year, and 5-Year absolute returns compared against the NIFTY 50 benchmark.

The Logic: We reward consistency. A stock that consistently outperforms the index with lower volatility receives a higher score.

Structural & Value Metrics

3. Profitability Score

Definition: Assesses how efficiently a company generates profit from its equity and assets.

Key Indicators: ROE (Return on Equity), Operating Margins, and EBITDA Margins.

The Logic: We prioritize companies with high "capital efficiency." A score of 9/10 indicates the company is in the top decile of its peer group.

4. Balance Sheet Score

Definition: A health check on the company's financial obligations and debt levels.

Key Indicators: Assets, Liabilities, Cash, Debt-to-Equity Ratio, Interest Coverage Ratio, and Current Ratio.

The Logic: Financial stability is key to surviving market downturns. We penalize companies with high and rising debt-to-equity or low interest coverage. This indicator acts as an early alert for investors.

5. Size Score

Definition: Categorizes the company based on its market dominance.

Key Indicators: Market Capitalization.

The Logic: This helps investors understand risk. A high Size Score (Large Cap) implies stability, while a lower score (Small/Micro Cap) implies greater volatility and less institutional scrutiny.

Sentiment & Market Timing

6. Smart Money Score

Definition: Tracks the "conviction" of institutional players (FIIs and DIIs).

Key Indicators: Changes in institutional shareholding patterns over time.

The Logic: Institutions have access to deep research. If "Smart Money" is increasing its stake, it serves as a strong bullish confirmation signal.

7. Momentum Score

Definition: Measures the "velocity" of the stock price trend.

Key Indicators: Weighted Price Action (1-month vs. 6-month returns).

The Logic: Based on the "trend is your friend" philosophy. We identify stocks currently in a markup phase with strong buying support behind them.

8. Technicals Score

Definition: A short-term outlook based on mathematical price patterns.

Key Indicators: 50-day & 200-day EMA crossovers, MACD, Bollinger Band deviations, RSI, and our proprietary technical indicator.

The Logic: Technicals provide the "When." Even a great company (High Growth) may carry a poor Technical Score if it is currently overbought or in a corrective phase.

Risk & Governance

9. Insider Activity Score

Definition: Monitors the buying and selling behaviour of company promoters and directors.

Key Indicators: Changes in shareholding patterns among insiders and promoters.

The Logic: No one knows the business better than insiders. Significant selling can be a red flag, while promoter buying is a sign of extreme confidence in the business outlook.

10. Dilution Score

Definition: Is the company buying back its shares or diluting existing shareholders by issuing new equity?

Key Indicators: Changes in total outstanding shares over past years.

The Logic: Frequent equity dilution reduces the value of existing shareholders. A high score means the company respects shareholder capital and manages dilution responsibly.
